Description

Property 10718 – Rome

5 Bedrooms – 2 Saunas

Magnificent, stately home in the centre of Rome.

Location and Surrounding Area. This marvellous home in the heart of Rome's historical centre is ideal for lovers of art and stylish living in general. The building has been with the aristocratic family since 1578 and the apartment is graced by priceless frescoes and works of art by illustrious artists from the late Renaissance and early Baroque period, including Nicolas Poussin, Cavalier d'Arpino, and the Zuccari brothers Taddeo and Federico.

The building is set in the exclusive Jewish quarter, right in the centre of Rome. The high windows look out over Piazza Mattei and the famous Turtle fountain. This Renaissance fountain was one of 18 fountains built in the sixteenth century to supply drinking water to the Roman city dwellers. The fountain itself was built by the architect Giacomo della Porta sculptor Taddeo Landini whereas the bronze turtles were added later in the mid 1600s and usually attributed to either Gian Lorenzo Bernini or Andrea Sacchi.

Rome, the Eternal city, is dripping with history; from the wonders of Michelangelo's artwork in the Sistine Chapel to the Colosseum and Imperial Forum, there is so much to see and do. The city was relatively undamaged during the Second World war and as such, the centre remains essentially Renaissance and Baroque in character. Not to be missed is a coffee in the famous Piazza Navona or in the quintessential Campo de' Fiori with its statue of the philosopher and mathematician Giordano Bruno. The nearby Pantheon is perhaps one of Ancient Rome's best preserved buildings and the dome remains today, even after 2000 years, the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome.

Property 10718 is within a 15 minute walk from the Vatican, Piazza Farnese, Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Navona, the Botanical Gardens, Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere and Villa la Farnesina with its spectacular frescoes by Raffaello.

Piazza Mattei is less than an hour's drive from both Ciampino and Fiumicino international airports. There are also regular bus and train services from the airports to the city centre.

The Property. A superb marble staircase with Baroque busts leads guests up to the piano nobile of this historical stately home. The Apartment sleeps up to 14 guests in sumptuous rooms on the first and mezzanine floors. There are five enormous double bedrooms, three of which have en suite bathrooms. Two of the rooms have a private sauna, one has a 17th century ceiling fresco by Nicolas Poussin and two of the rooms have Netflix. All of the rooms in the apartment have air conditioning, a sheer delight in the balmy days of Roman summer. The ceiling of the open plan living/dining area houses frescoes by the aforementioned Zuccari brothers and there is a corner bar for refreshing aperitifs as you await your dinner. Or why not enjoy a quick game of billiards in the adjoining billiard room with its professional-sized table, stunning vaulted ceiling and 17th century frescoes by Cavalier d'Arpino. The kitchen offers all the modern necessities to render your stay and dining experiences at Property 10718 as idyllic as possible.
