Description

Property 10628 – Volterra - Tuscany

9 Bedrooms – Pool – Indoor Jacuzzi and SPA

Exquisitely restored farmhouse overlooking the stunning Tuscan countryside.

Location and Surrounding Area. The historical town of Volterra is not only a joy to visit but fascinating to learn about, as it is steeped in history, with a mixture of Etruscan, Roman, Medieval and Renaissance art and architecture. Dominating a valley at 550m above sea level, and only 40km from the coast, the town boasts a glorious past which is still very much its present. The local economy developed around the art of alabaster carving, a tradition that still lives on to this day. Apart from taking in the atmosphere of the town itself and visiting the alabaster craftsmen, notable places of interest include the cathedral, the Roman Theatre, and the Etruscan acropolis, necropolis and museum.

San Gimignano – just 14 km away, the world-famous ‘town of fine towers’ is a UNESCO world Heritage site. While many towns and cities in Italy boast medieval and renaissance towers, none have such a high concentration as this – no fewer than 14 in a town of less than 8000 inhabitants! This ancient walled town boasts incredible views, beautiful ‘piazzas’, and some fine local culinary delights – most famous of which are the local saffron and Vernaccia wine. Not surprisingly, it has been the source of inspiration for film sets (Tea with Mussolini), novels (The Broker by John Grisham), artists (M.C. Escher) and even the setting of the video game Assassin’s Creed II. Essential visiting.

The Montenero Nature Reserve, bordering the property, is the perfect place for taking relaxing, regenerating walks, and also includes streams with waterfalls, which are ideal for the more adventurous visitor who is interested in organised excursions including canyoning. The entire area surrounding the town of Volterra is popular with lovers of outdoor activities, from cycling to horse riding and walking.

The ‘Teatro del Silenzio’ (Theatre of Silence) is an open-air amphitheatre located in the town of Lajatico just a few kilometres from Volterra. The town is notable for being the birthplace of the Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, who was partly responsible for the building of the amphitheatre and hosts its only annual ‘concerto del sole’ every summer. For the rest of the year the theatre remains in silence!

The Property. Property 10628 is located in the Tuscan countryside next to a Nature Reserve of 100 acres of land, in an incredibly peaceful setting with breath-taking views of the surrounding area. Property 10628 sleeps up to 22 guests in 9 bedrooms, each equipped with its own en-suite bathroom. The Villa is fully equipped to provide all modern comforts and exquisitely furnished in the highest quality, typically Tuscan, rustic style. The villa also offers a communal kitchen, a living room, an indoor dining room with a log fire and long, rustic ‘frattino’ dining table, a separate formal dining area, a stunning indoor Jacuzzi, a garden with large outdoor pool and a tastefully lit outdoor dining area with a traditional pizza oven and BBQ.

Each of the nine bedrooms sleeps two or three people in 8 queen-size and 6 single beds, and includes an en-suite bathroom with either shower or bathtub.

The kitchen is fully equipped for all cooking requirements and also features an oven, washing machine and dishwasher. In the living area there are sofas, a flat-screen TV, DVD player, and CD player.

Getting There: Siena is 37 km away, while San Gimignano is 12 km. The international airports of Florence and Pisa are at a short distance of 48 km and 50 km respectively
