Description

Property 10593

Location and Surrounding Area

Located on Favignana, the largest of the Egadi Islands, this four-bedroom villa is the perfect place for a relaxing break on one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean. Surrounded by crystal-clear sea, the Egadi Islands are three tiny scraps of land still wild for the most part. Although they are only a short hop from Sicily, arriving here is like landing in a different world. A nature reserve since 1992, Favignana and the Egadi Islands offer visitors unspoiled maritime heritage and pristine waters rich in marine life.

Favignana, the largest of the islands, has a rugged and barren landscape. At the jagged coast, the thin soil has been scraped off to expose the tufa rock. The island is divided in two by a mountainous ridge, and its highest point is Monte Santa Caterina, topped with a fort built by the Normans and extended in the 17th century by the Spanish. Forgotten about for centuries, Favignana’s destiny is wrapped up in the blue sea that surrounds it and inevitably dictates the life of the islanders.

Traditionally, fishing and tuna are the main sources of the island’s economy, but with fish stocks in decline, tourism is growing in importance. The surrounding sea is washed by currents which leave the water clear and its treasures are revealed to visitors through boat trips and scuba diving. A boat ride around the island is a must, giving you the chance to admire the glorious landscape of coves and clear sea. In the evening, enjoy gastronomic specialties such as couscous and, of course, tuna in one of its many forms.

Nearby lie the other two islands in the archipelago. Pack some supplies and take a boat to Levanzo, the smallest island, renowned for its pebble beaches and the Grotta del Genovese, where you can admire incredible paintings dating back to the Paleolithic era. Explore Marettimo, the wildest and most unspoiled, partly because there are no cars on the island. However, the island is riddled with walking paths leading to through a harsh and barren limestone landscape to bays of extraordinary beauty.

Property 10593 is 40 km from Trapani “Vincenzo Florio” Airport and 110 km from Palermo “Falcone Borsellino” Airport. The villa is 1 km from Cala Rossa Beach, 1.5 km from Bue Marino Beach, 3 km from Cala Azzurra Beach, 6 km from the Castle of Santa Caterina, 11 km from Levanzo, 27 km from Trapani, 35 km from Marettimo, 53 km from Marsala, and 133 km from Palermo. The villa is just 4 km from the center of Favignana, where all the necessary services can be easily found.
