Description

TENUTA CASTELLINA - CASTELLINA IN CHIANTI

7 Bedrooms

Location and Surrounding Area
Immersed in the peaceful Tuscan countryside, this magnificent recently-restored estate is ideally located to explore the region’s cultural highlights and most spectacular natural wonders. With wonderful views of the surrounding countryside, this exclusive seven-bedroom property is the perfect location for unforgettable day trips to the most beautiful towns in Tuscany and provides a unique opportunity to admire its splendid landscapes while soaking up the region’s incredibly rich historical and cultural heritage.

Property 1633097709 neighbors on some of the most prestigious wine producers in Tuscany. Just down the road is Fonterutoli, a charming historic hamlet where visitors can opt for a wine tasting. In the opposite direction lies Castellina in Chianti, a charming town with plenty of activities to merit multiple visits. Enjoy a stroll through the town’s medieval tunnel followed up by shopping the bottegas and a trip to a gelateria. In the summer, the town’s piazzas are the perfect setting for a dinner immersed in scenes of true Tuscan life.

In half an hour by car, you can reach the medieval town of Siena. Its ancient red brick buildings, the scallop-shaped main square Piazza del Campo and the Cathedral Square, dominated by the zebra-striped Duomo, make it an absolute must for anyone traveling to Tuscany. Effectively an open-air museum celebrating the Gothic, Siena boasts secular monuments that have retained both their medieval forms and their exceptional art collections, providing plenty to marvel at.

In less than one hour by car, you can reach San Gimignano, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Italy. From afar, San Gimignano looks like a town from a Renaissance painting: a circle of 13th-century walls enclosing tall, teetering stone towers. Its towers make it instantly recognizable, but the art treasures held within its walls are just as remarkable. Although the town is small, there is enough art, architecture and fine food to keep you busy for more than one day.

The property is also a few kilometers from Volterra, one of Tuscany’s most dramatic hilltop towns. Despite its many attractions, Volterra sees fewer tourists than other Tuscan towns, so you can expect to share its winding stone streets with locals and explore its ancient sites without crowds. Founded by the Etruscans and surrounded by medieval walls, Volterra has a notable historic center filled with fascinating Roman ruins, medieval buildings and alabaster workshops.

In just one hour by car, you can also reach Florence, a treasure trove of art with an astonishing contemporary vibe. Beyond the extraordinary artistic heritage, a testimony to its centuries of civilization, the best way to enjoy Florence is to stroll along the riverside avenues at sunset, or to get lost among the city’s myriad alleyways of the bohemian Oltrarno or the narrow little streets of San Niccolò, where it feels like you have ended up in another time along its centuries-old walls.

Property 1633097709 is 53 km from Florence Amerigo Vespucci International Airport, 104 km from Pisa Galileo Galilei International Airport, 142 km from Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport, 264 km from Rome Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. Castellina in Chianti is just 4 km from the property, Siena is 23 km, Greve in Chianti is 23 km, San Gimignano is 36 km, Volterra is 49 km, Florence is 51 km, Pienza is 74 km, Arezzo is 74 km, Montepulciano is 83 km, Pisa is 109 km, and Perugia is 127 km.

The multiple al fresco dining areas are irresistible in the warmer months, inviting guests to enjoy a cocktail hour spritz or a summer barbeque under the stars. The property also features scenic hiking trails and a convenient outdoor parking space for five cars, complete with EV charging station.

The convivial living rooms welcome world-weary travelers to kick up their feet and relax into the dolce far niente, the Italian art of doing nothing. Food and wine connoisseurs will love the custom Tuscan kitchen in the main house where delicious Italian meals and lively conversation take place around a large farm table. Imagine a morning painting the Tuscan vistas followed by an afternoon of leisurely reading by the pool, al fresco dining at sunset and stargazing long after dark.

Main House (5 Double Bedrooms):
The main house can accommodate 10 guests. Lovingly restored in 2017, the 5-bedroom authentic Tuscan farmhouse beckons its guests to curl up in front of its fireplace in the winter, or unwind in the crystalline saltwater pool in the summer. The interiors feature a maze-like succession of open and intimate spaces filled with light, including a traditional Tuscan kitchen with twin hand-carved wood and wrought iron chandeliers hanging over two dining tables, and a rough-hewn kitchen fireplace.

Finely-crafted Tuscan antiques were sourced from around the region and refurbished, and include custom-made hand-carved wood furniture and fine artifacts: large mirrors, elegant tables, finely upholstered chairs and seating, ornate sideboards, and chandeliers. Each en-suite bathroom has been outfitted with Italian Tuscan marble and travertine stone. Outside, a pergola-covered dining area and stone grill make the perfect setting for barbecues, private get-togethers, and celebrations.

On the main level you will find a large chef kitchen with authentic Tuscan fireplace, pergola-covered outdoor dining area featuring a stone kitchen and professional grill. The kitchen also features a wine cooler with the award-winning collection if the estate Chianti Classico wines (available at an additional cost). On the same level you will also find a small study with iPad and Canon multifunction printer, and a laundry room with washer and dryer. The main level houses a Guest Bedroom with large double-size bed, private terrace, bathroom on the upper level with shower. Upstairs you will also find an adjacent dining room, and a cozy fitness room equipped with a treadmill, exercise bike, and exercise gear.

Offering a warm atmosphere and abundance of natural sunlight, the main level also features an exceptional Master Bedroom with comfortable king-size bed, private entrance, en-suite bathroom with shower, and an adjacent study room with printer and iPad. On the main level you will also find a Guest Bedroom with large double-size bed with private terrace, en-suite bathroom with double vanity and shower, and an adjacent study room with printer and iPad.

The upper level features a spacious open double living room with adjacent foyer including a large traditional Tuscan fireplace, an elegant dining room, a small fully-equipped kitchen with induction stove, dishwasher, and fridge. Here you will also find a Guest Bedroom with double-size bed, en-suite bathroom with shower and small walk-in closet. You will find heated towel racks in each bathroom.

Granary (2 Double Bedrooms):
The Granary can accommodate 4 guests. Steeped in historic charm and romance, the Granary is located a few short steps from the Main House. Recently restored in 2020, this building has its own unique history housing the farm animals that lived on the property in the Middle Ages. With two spacious master bedrooms, a generous indoor living area and stunning outdoor dining area surrounded by breathtaking countryside views, the Granary is perfect for creating lasting memories shared with loved ones.

Guests are greeted with a sumptuously-decorated open living and dining room replete with original stone backdrop, a fully-equipped custom chef kitchen with Bardiglio grey Italian marble countertops and kitchen island, and pergola-covered outdoor dining area with a large travertine table. On the upper level, both master suites benefit from magnificent countryside views and large en-suite bathrooms with double showers. The real treat at the Granary lies in its outdoor spaces. On the terrace of the Granary you will find a newly-built outdoor stone kitchen complete with wood-fired pizza oven.
